Bio

Oscar Cordon is a Full Professor at the Department of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence of the University of Granada (UGR) since 2011. He has been with UGR since 1995, becoming Associate Professor in 2001. He is a member of the Soft Computing and Intelligent Information Systems research group and heads the Soft Computing for Complex Environments (SOCCER) lab.

He has over 25 years of internationally recognized contributions to computational intelligence research and development. With over 10,900 citations in Google Scholar (h-index 49) and 380+ peer-reviewed publications, he is one of the most cited researchers in his field. He has advised 19 Ph.D. dissertations and coordinated 37 research projects worth over €9M.


Research Focus

Fuzzy Systems: He is a leading expert in genetic fuzzy systems, fuzzy rule-based systems, and fuzzy and linguistic modeling, with a research book on Genetic Fuzzy Systems receiving over 1,400 citations.

Evolutionary Algorithms: His work encompasses genetic algorithms, ant colony optimization, and other metaheuristics with applications across multiple domains.

Soft Computing Applications: He applies computational intelligence to medical image registration, forensic anthropology, assembly line balancing, information retrieval, and other real-world problems.

Data Science and Mining: His research includes visual science maps design and mining, multiobjective graph-based data mining, and agent-based modeling for social network analysis.
