Bio

Eduardo G Pardo is a Full Professor in the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence area at the Higher Technical School of Computer Engineering at Universidad Rey Juan Carlos (URJC). He is one of the founders of the GRAFO (Group for Research in Algorithms For Optimization) research group, a high-performance research group in optimization algorithms at URJC.

He completed his PhD in Telematic and Computer Systems in 2011 in the field of heuristic optimization and is co-author of many journal papers related to this topic. He has co-supervised the doctoral thesis of Borja Menéndez Moreno, which was defended in 2017 with European mention and a grade of outstanding cum laude. He is currently co-supervising three doctoral theses and has guided numerous successful research projects.

Research Focus

Metaheuristics and Heuristic Optimization: His research focuses on developing metaheuristic algorithms, which have become one of the preferred approaches for solving optimization problems. These algorithms provide high-quality approximate solutions (sometimes even optimal) in short computing times.

Supply Chain Optimization: He serves as principal investigator on the SCOOP project (Computer Science for Supply Chain OptimizatiOn Problems), focusing on solving hard optimization problems in supply chain management using efficient combinations of Operations Research and Artificial Intelligence techniques.

Variable Neighborhood Search: His expertise includes VNS metaheuristic for solving optimization problems based on systematic change of neighborhoods, particularly applied to problems like the Cutwidth Minimization Problem.

Cybersecurity Applications: Recent work includes optimization of code caves in malware binaries to evade machine learning detectors, using genetic algorithms and other optimization techniques for adversarial examples in cybersecurity.
